Duane,
By all means cut the rotten part of the rhizome away. This will keep
the rot from spreading to the offshoots. You could make a mix of 10%
Clorox (or similar) and 90% water and pour on the exposed ends of the small
plants' rhizomes, after you cut out the rotten parts. Good luck.
