broken color

I recall reading about Mr. Ensminger's work on these broekn colors, and if
this overly old memory of mine is correct, there was a problem with either
growth or fertility in the seedlings used to establish the line. If it was
growth, then that could explain why there is some lack of adjustment to a
wide range of growing conditions. Sorry to be so vague; can someone help me
