Arthur asked about hardiness of PCI. I think that I mentioned in an
earlier message that I found I. douglasianaa growing in the long grass
in a nursery on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River, about 20km from
here. This "shocked" me at the time as I has assumed there was no hope
of growning them. I was given a piece but, as it was in flower, it went
the way of all flesh.
I now have seedlings growing out side. If they survive this winter they
will be considered quite hardy as we have received very little snow
until recently and the wind chill dropped to -51C a week or so ago. By
April, they will either be growing or dead but I suspect they will grow.
Ian, in Ottawa where we now have about a foot of light snow - almost
ideal for the garden - and a fairly mild winter.
