Not surprisingly, the two black TBs that have recently received the Dykes
Medal, BEFORE THE STORM and HELLO DARKNESS, have many ancestors that trace
back to I. aphylla, such as Allegiance, Belle Meade, Black Hills, Black
Swan, Licorice Stick, Navy Strut, Prince Indigo, Sable Night, and Top Hat.
However, I wonder if JESSE'S SONG doesn't have as much or more total
aphylla "blood" in its background, all coming through Belle Meade, which
appears four times in the 5th generation of JS's pedigree and once in the
6th generation. As Belle Meade is 1/16th aphylla, that would give JS almost
one percent aphylla ancestry.
