Thanks for the address - what a revelation to actually see all those species
crosses ........ sibtosas with odd standards similar to the setosa f.
platyryncha I have (but mine are way uglier), some stunning deep colors, and
Sevigatas that look like I. setosa 'Kirigimanae'. Dr. Tamberg wrote he feels
I. setosa v. nasuensis and v. hondoensis from Japan are actually naturally
occurring setosa/laevigata hybrids, similar to his induced ones, but he doesn't
mention 'Kirigimanae' from Japan, which is supposedly a natural setosa/laev
hybrid also.
I've ordered all three of these setosa hybrids, and 'Kirigimanae' is the only
one which survived - hondoensis and nasuensis were less vigorous, never bloomed
and died during a harsh winter. 'Kirigimanae' took several years before it
would bloom, but when it did, I was impressed with the blooms - they are
handsome and elegant. 'Kirigimanae' looks quite similar to Tamberg's Sevigata.
I just about e-mailed him asking him for one of every iris, when I noticed his
redirection to Joe Pye Weed's Garden, so I guess that is the catalog I will
request ASAP.
The colchicine treatments he refers to........... is this beyond the scope of
the non- medical/scientific layperson, such as myself? I think it is a
prescription drug for gout (I believe). Is it only made available to qualified
professionals, or is there access for a hybridizer with a business license?
I could probably get a certain amount through my brother-in-law, an
anesthesiologist here, but I don't really wish to presume upon him too much, as
he is Danish, with a green card, and I'd be horrified if they shipped him back
to Denmark for giving me a prescription (and my sister would never forgive me).
