Don,

You might want to consider planting these little darling about 6 inches apart 
the first year--until you determine their intentions.  Some will die the 
first year, some will sit for two or three years without growth before they 
die and some just plain--well, you get the idea.  My limited experience 
implies that good growers can be determined before the first bloom, while 
other traits take considerably longer to determine.
