As Jan points out, this is not just a USA list.
Many people have a signature line that is automatically applied to all your
e-mails, Some programs allow you to have more than one.
When I do e-mail (other than on AOL which seems to be more user unfriendly
than most) I have different sigs that are appropriate for different lists and
areas. For the boating lists, it has our boat name and type in it for
instance. I also have one for work related issues, and a general all purpose
one.
It would be simple, helpful and appropriate to put a sig line in there that
lists your zone/location when you were talking about germination, cultivation
practices, or other items where that would be relevant - most especially
rebloom. I think in fact, that on the old iris list it may have been either
required or strongly advised that one do so. Which may be why my mother
(Rosalie) mentioned it.
I don't see why having your name included would be a terrible problem. Even
when people post a lot, sometimes a person may forget exactly who it is that
posts as Old Salt (to take a name from another area so as not to insult
anyone).
The issue of whether one should put such items on e-mail because of fear of
being subjected to spam other unwelcome stuff should be addressed by the
onelist people or the moderator of the list IMHO. Most or many lists that I
am on have protections against this.
I use this particular address only for this list and some travel boards on
AOL, and the address is block from anyone replying to me other than from this
list. (With the exception of my mother and some individual friends from the
list)
So if you want to reply to me directly, you will have to write to
rafbeas@aol.com or gmbeasley@mindspring.com
RosalieAnn - Leonardtown MD (don't know what zone it is) and (for now anyway)
also south of Baltimore MD where I have some crocuses in bloom.
