Betty,
The trojan (that's what it really is, not a virus--also, despite the news
hackers are the good guys-crackers are the ones who break into machines,
etc, but that's another story) comes as an attachment to a piece of mail.
One has to open it in order for it to do its dirty deeds. If you don't try
to open it, you will be OK. Also, this trojan looks for certain files and
programs--if you don't have them, you don't need to worry.
Whether McAfee would catch it or not is a tale unto itself. First, it would
depend on how the program is set to scan on your machine. This is not the
time or place to go into that, so I won't. Look at the documentation.
Also, you would need a minimum version number of the program to enable it to
catch that trojan and a minimum definition number to catch it. Updates to
the definition files are released each week (look for the new ones on the
McAfee or NAI site late Wednesday or Thursday morning for the latest
release.
NT is an operating system released by Microsoft. It is considered to be the
next step up from the Windows 9x operating systems found on most personal
computers and workstations in businesses. It is said to be more crash
resistant, and, to a certain extent, it is. Microsoft has just released
Windows 2000 (other wise known as NT 5 or WIN2K) to supercede the current NT
version (4.0).

I opened the first e-mail and found it empty. Since Ernie rarely posts (and
this one was "strange") I deleted the subsequent message with the
attachment.
I was wondering why this seemed to infect some of us and not others. I just
ran a search for PrettyPark and found nothing,on my computer. I've also had
no indication of problems. My system has McAffe running. Does this make the
difference? What is an NT system?
