RE: Re: CULT: iris patch observations

There's a simple answer if the problem is dissolved chlorine -- when
watering orchids or replenishing fishtanks (or, for that matter, when using
drinking water to dose animals with antibiotics)I've been taught to let tap
water sit in an open bucket overnight before use; most of the dissolved
chlorine apparently dissipates into the air. Of course this doesn't get rid
of ALL the dissolved chemicals, but it seems to help.

I have been wodering the same thing here Donald. We have chlorinated water,
which I don't think is well regulated. Some days you can hardly breath in
the shower. Other days you can't smell it at all.
I have been watering newly transplanted rz's with it, and my losses have
been higher this year than others - mainly from crown rot I think.
I have a rainwater tank which has sufficient to provide for a few irises, so

I will experiment next year, with a town supply water group, an unwatered
group and a rainwater group.
I'd be interested to hear what other people's experiences have been.
