Dear Joe and Sherry, There will be a flower show at the National - it will
be at the headquarters hotel on Fri., I think -- it will be in your packet
when you register - and you want to be sure to come!
As for visiting - you will see a dozen or more gardens at National. If you
are going to extend your time before , I want to say that it is considered
bad manners to visit the guest gardens before the show because the owners
are SOO busy getting ready and don't have time to talk and show off their
wares, so to speak. After National is over, they are glad to have
repeat-visits.
I no longer put my garden up for tours, Cannot afford the help and cannot do
it all myself any more, BUT I would love for you to see it, if it survives
the winter and I can get it spruced up enought! Just let me know WHEN- that
is what day - morning or afternoon or evening -- This would have to be before
or by Sunday, the 20th. I like to be with people when they see my garden -
and the meetings really begin Mon. the 21st - the date was wrong in the
Bulletin. The AIS B'd Mtg is Mon. afternoon and Tues. and anyone can go and
silently watch! And I have a friend from Calif. coming and we always room
together Of course, Most people come just to see the gardens on Thurs.,
Fri., and Sat. But that way you miss some of the Section meetings that meet
on Wed and in the evenings -- especially Judges Training..
My garden won't be in the former pristine shape I had when it was on tour in
'91, but there are many things to see besides irises - trees, shrubbery,
hopefully perennuials, and other things. It isn't and never has been a
commercial garden - I say it just "growed" like like Topsy. I have many new
irises plus my own old favorites and rebloomers, and some Sioberians. My
garden is small, but I used to have about 1200 --but each year I make myself
cut back to a more manageable size. I love to have people see it, so hope it
will be in good shape after this peculiar winter!
The meetings are important for seeing people as well as irises. Rosalie nr
Baltimore zone 7 - freezing nights, but 40ish days with rain forecasted for
the rest of the week - so hope there will be no rot! (Hah! snort, snort!)
