This is far too much work for me.  Try ridging the soil and planting spurias 
on top of the ridge--kinda like ridging for early germination or flooding, 
etc.  Whatever you want to call it--get them above the surrounding soil.  It 
worked for me.  The more I think about Spurias the more I miss SOCIAL LADY, 
COUNTESS ZEPPELIN, & BARBARA'S KISS.  I also grew a beautiful bright yellow 
by B Hager, TEMPTATION, (? second generation on this line) but it didn't form 
a good clump.  They did all live.

Although I tried to remember to withhold water in the summer, I must admit 
they were in the spray pattern for some tall bearded's and were often watered 
along with the TBs.  Overhead sprinkler.  They received afternoon shade.  
Other than the planting, I did nothing to baby or encourage them!
