For those of you still buried in snow, I want to reassure you that it isn't such a bad thing to have. We had a lot of snow thru December, but it's been bare ground here and sharply shifting temps ever since. This is the season known as "Winter-heaving". Have pushed rhizomes back in, shoved stakes back in, pulled the possum pawed-thru newspapers off the LAs and back onto the path (papers were under 4" of sawdust--are now picturesquely scattered thru it!), and mourned over the rotted irises. (Only the new ones I most wanted, like Emma Doodle, and the favorite, delicate ones, of course. (or is that "of curse"?!)
But the trade-off is, it was over 50 degrees here the last couple days, so clumps of snowdrops and eranthis are blooming, and snow crocus popped out all over the "spring meadow" today! Spring will get there! In the meantime, it's supposed to get back down to 17 by tomorrow or so...
