That's scarry . I do that all the time. Maybe not all iris have equal amounts of poison in them.

There was this lady working on her arrangement at the show. While
doing some re-arranging of the cut stalks and having her hands full,
she gripped one stalk between her teeth for a few minutes and
injested iris sap. She baffled the doctors, and it was a near-fatal
case.
