Not so funny as it might seem--the irises of the obscure Series Syriacae
(I. grant-duffii, I. aschersoni, I. masia) have very sharp bristles at the
bases of their rhizomes that can give you a nasty puncture! But these
irises are almost unknown in cultivation. >>
When I spoke of experts, I was refering to "Internet" experts, and should
have worded it that way. Anything can be put on the Internet, AND anyone can
lay claim to being an expert--it doesn't make it so. I'm long past the age
where I believed everything I was told or everything I read.
Bill, I meant no disrespect to 'real' experts. Most have paid their dues.
However, I will continue to smile over thorn laden irises that most of us
will never see, and many (most ?) did not know exist. Sorry if that bothers
anyone. IMHO (only) I doubt there is much connection between the truth (the
iris you mention) and the Internet article being quoted.
Maybe I should take myself, and others, more seriously?
