Iris of yester-year

Hi,

Those of you who are HIPS oriented might be interested in notes I just
came across from 1963. Jim and I were living in Entiat, Washington. A
very small community (350 people). We had planted our first iris garden
in 1962. On a tour of Gordon Plough's garden in East Wenatchee in 1963
these are the iris that appealed to us.

CHERRY PINK $17.50; SIERRA ROSE $6.OO; MOUNTAIN MUSIC $10.OO; DAWN ROSE
@6.00; DARK STRANGER $7.50, IMAGINATION $5.00; SIBOLA (to be introduced
in 1964); SASHAY (also scheduled for 1964; FIRE CHIEF $5.00; SPICE
ISLAND $22.50; EASTER VALLEY $20.00; a lacy orchid seedling #59-115-58;
RAINBOW GOLD $20.00; MORNING HAZE; MELISA $5.00; HELEN HAYES $15.00;
COFFEE ROYAL $15.00; STATUESQUE $17.50; BLAZING VIOLET $15.00; CONGO
SONG $25.00; AZURE LACE; and PALISADES.

I know we bought FIRE CHIEF and SPICE ISLAND. I wonder how many of these
iris are still on the market today? SPICE ISLAND was a beautiful,
heavily marked deep red wine fancy. I wouldn't mind haveing it in our
garden again!
