Re: REB: CULT: Irises In Florida--again

Hi Claire,

Thanks loads...I still have your email address. Will check with you to see what is happening in Charleston We like to go there quite a bit...lovely court yards...great pizza....Some of the homes are really lovely. I don't remember seeing Iris but it may be we were there at the wrong time of year or didn't know where to go to see them.

I will have to look up Lady Emma...

Could you tell me more about your raised beds. I liked the idea of painting the outside of pots white that way they would need less watering.

Now all I have to do is decide which ones to surprise my friend with.I have kept all the helpful advice to send her too. I will add yours to the list. Its getting harder to decide.

Thanks Iris-talk has a great bunch of really helpful and wise people in it who are willing to share.I think that is gr gr gr great.

  Hi Sandy,

By now you probably have received some rebloomer
suggestions. Some that do well for me are Happy New
Year, Rosalie Figge, Violet Music, Corn Harvest, Winesap,
Feedback, Harvest 0f Memories, Eternal Waltz, Virgo,
Earl 0f Essex, 0range Popsicle. Lady Emma(an MTB)
is an everbloomer for me, almost every month of the year
I can cut a bloomstalk from this. I have amended soil
in my raised beds and grow about every type of iris.
Siberians are my greatest challenge as far as bloom is
concerned. My soil ph is more on the high side and
they like cooler weather and acid soil. I'm trying a
  few in pots.

If you are ever in the Charleston area do call me. We
have a large planting of iris at Cypress Gardens in
Moncks Corner. I have several hundred of the bearded
and beardless, and species. Isle 0f Palms is a barrier
  island near Charleston.

Keep me posted. Can provide sources for those I
mentioned if needed. Anxious and I Do are very fragrant.
I am getting those this year, but they are not new varieties.

  Claire Honkanen
