CULT: Akk, iris borer??

Hi all,
Today found that CHEERIO's main rhizome was very soft and
rotted -- dug it out, took off 2 little bits that were solid
and put the in a bleach water bath, and in looking at the
bottom of the rotted rhizome, I saw 3, segmented-worm thingies.
They were kind of white, had some black dots? on them (I need
new glasses). Maybe 1/4" long? pretty thin. Wiggly.
The pictures I've seen of iris borers, look bigger and fatter.
But I've never seen these worms before. We've never had
iris borers.
This fall and winter has been overly wet at times, and temps
have been going up and down more than usual (San Francisco
bay area).
Can anyone tell me if they MIGHT be iris borers? (and if
so, how much should I freak out/what should I do?).
