<Linda Mann may have misunderstood what I meant
about variegata and pallida---this appears to me
to be an advanced
generation hybrid of the two species, probably
without admixture of
other species materials, but dominated by
characteristics from
variegata except for the stem height.>
No 'she' understood that Neil <g>. It's just that it isn't at all
reminiscent of either of the variegata cultivars that I grow. But maybe
the two variegata selections I have are not representative of the range
of characteristics of variegata? You've certainly been at this longer
than I have and are more familiar with the range of characteristics of
the species.
From my limited experience, it seems much more like I. kashmiriana
(orig. from Don & Ginny Spoon) in plant form & growth habits, bloom
season, as well as pigments. If you like, when we swap, I can send
starts of the variegata clones & kashmiriana - see what you think.
Maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part, hoping to find a few
less used tough genes to mix with my TBs, but it does seem to be quite
different from variegata.
