Talkers, (& Listeners),
Bloom season will be here quicker than many of us would like . . . winter
flew. It will soon be time to help Mother Nature once again. Before then,
I'd like to hear about hybridizing experiments & experiences that seem to
have dispelled urban legends.
When I was beginning to hybridize in the early to mid 80's I read everything
I could find about irises. And, when hybridizers wrote, I took everything to
be the truth.
I'll start by offering some of my urban legends that may OR may not be true.
1) Wide crosses usually produce dogs! I interpreted this to
mean that something like red x white would be a bad choice to cross.
2) Selfs produced from plicata & self crosses are usually hafty . . . have
serious haft marks.
Although I've seen evidence that indicates the above may be true, I'm not
sure of the truth of these statements.
Questions & Answers are both appreciated. Anyone care to join in?
