Re: TB: Fran's Flattie

Hi Walter,

I couldn't tell if anyone replied to your message
regarding Fran's Flattie and I was not able to find
the archives to search and I didn't want to duplicate
any responses.

Anyway, "Fran's Flattie" is a cultivar that has been
passed around quite a bit here in the Northwest area.
It originally came from Fran Hawk's mother's garden.
As with so many historics, it's lost its name along
the way. None of the historians in our area are able
to identify it. It might even be a chance seedling or
sport. In any event,it now gets passed around as
"Fran's Flattie". By the way, the spelling is Fran's
spelling, not mine. For those on the list that are not
fortunate enough to know Fran, she is a long time
member/judge of AIS and several other iris sections,
groups and societies. She is also one of our iris
historians and maintains a display garden here in
Seattle and is a wonderful source of information.

I haven't read the article on flat irises yet but plan
to very soon. The picture of I. aphylla 'Lady Phyllis'
looks suspiciously like what I grow as Clematis.
