HIST: Strange iris

I was asked to help identify these iris by a customer. The first
picture isn't really good but the second gives an overall good shot of
the flower. I know identification by flower isn't necessarily reliable.

Is this some sort of historic space ager? I will try to get more
information about the cultivar from the requestee. Thanks for the help!
