<Being frozen solid for at least 6 months of the year has its
advantages such as:
1) no weeds!
2) no worrying about watering the garden in a drought
3) time to take or dream about real vacations
4) time to worry about offspring that are not flowers
5) time to visit said offspring
6) plenty of time to complain about weather :-)
7) time to ski (if it is above 10 F (-12 C)
8) time to read (not gardening books)
9) time to knit (ok, ok this is not for everybody)
10) time to actually look at the mountains in all their spendlor
(see above; this is not for everybody)
11) time to look and study iris catalogues
12) time to take a course
13) time to shut-up>
Ellen: You're right...I'm just getting spring fever. This is actually one of the few times this winter we've had enough snow to cover the ground here just north of Detroit. If I had mountains, I'd love to look at them all year round! And, of course I'm devouring the catalogues, wishing I could land a full time job so I could buy all the irises I'd like.;) As for offspring...I'd better stay in my daughter's good graces, as she's contributing to my iris fund for my birthday and Mother's Day ;)
And, finally, after the first thrill of spring is over, the one thing I DON'T miss is working in the heat - which is just about the time the catalog orders arrive. I'm usually so wilted, I just put them in pots (where they show their gratitude by thriving!) until the 'dog days' are past.
Linda Bartell...Just N. of Detroit - Zone 6a/5b (I think) - clay soil ;(
