I have asked permission to post a photo a genuine lurker (unsubscribed)
sent me offlist. In the meantime, thanks for the details Donald. I
knew you grew it - found the photo of it in the archives of very robust
remnants left after grasshopper attacks.
Nothing like studying pedigrees to distract from chores and brighten an
otherwise gray day...
Paul Hill mentioned that Burseen irises did well for a neighbor when he
was in Atlanta, so I waded thru pedigrees of some of the non-space age
ones online, noticed that I already have a few, including one of my best
'survivors', WHERE
THERE'S SMOKE.
I also picked up his QUITE QUAINT at a club sale summer before last. It
didn't bloom last spring, but thanks to the two photos & Donald's
description, I know what it looks like. But I am mystified by the
pigments. It's described as gray, out of dark blue/black, orange, and
yellow bkg.
===What pigment combination(s) look gray? In the photos, it looks white
or maybe pale lavender. I have a reject seedling from BEHOLD A LADY
(yellow amoena, with odd colored white standards) X CELEBRATION SONG
that looks also gray in person, but is sort of lavenderish & brownish in
photos.
