Bay View Gardens - leaf spot

Good afternoon folks - I guess you haven't seen Tom Burseen's $100+ iris this
year. I have only bought one introduction iris in my life and that in part
because I ain't getting any younger and it had a trait I couldn't wait to
acquire. If I were a commercial hybridizer and Ghio's plant had traits that I
considered desireable I would probably buy it. In this part of the country almost
any California introduction is taking a chance. There are so many Hamblen and
Hamner and Weiler and Gartman and Brown cultivars available at very modest
prices and I don't think a lot of the "new" iris are really an improvement. I
mainly want iris that are hardy, multiple at a moderate rate and bloom most
years. The rarest and prettiest iris in the world isn't worth anything if it
doesn't thrive and bloom. The nature of the iris doesn't lend itself, in my
opinion, to color breaking and horns and spoons. It is rather like putting a
clown suit on a beautiful woman. I want my iris stately and regal.
Yes, Don, I am having a lot of leaf spot show up at my place too. Wonder
what is going on?
