Re: CAT:Bay View Gardens (and Tom Burseen's 'Inky Icon')

Wellllll, I have a problem with fitting single rhizomes with a price tag of over 50 USD in my budget, even from Joe, Keith, and Tom. I have a big budget too; most years anyway.

However, I think this is something that a strong (financially) affiliate could get involved in. Buy a couple of really pricy rhizomes, label them as babysitting plants, then auction one to the highest bidder in the affiliate and random draw the other one. Do this at the most convenient affiliate meeting (July-August up here). The two winners return the increases to the affiliate... and don't get anything further to babysit until they report in, with divisions in hand. I think the random draw winner should dig no later than the second year and the auction winner should dig after the third year.

Granted there will always be lots of little picky details that people could complain about, but those people could always volunteer for executive duties. Best opportunity to get your way is to write the rules in the first place. ;-)

Look at the bright side. Even with the improvements in the exchange rate, Tom's introduction would cost me over 180 CAD including the phyto, shipping and handling. It's not daylily country either.

Sandy Ives in Ottawa
