I can't complain about gardening in the vale of despond for irises -
small drifts of gorgeous snow crocuses are in full bloom. They have
naturalized in parts of abandoned iris beds and lawn, mostly various
shades of the lavender ones - C. thomasiana?
And the frogs and singing at the top of their lungs, keeping me company
as I transplant iris seedlings to bigger pots out in the warm sunshine
...so what if they don't live to adulthood..neither will most of the
baby frogs. It won't be long till the ravine behind the house will be
carpeted with bloodroot, gold poppy, yellow trillium, dutchman's
bloomers, troutlilies, mayapple, golden seal, and along the creek closer
to the house, Virginia bluebells.
