Yes, it could be night time temperatures.  I've kept a lot  of notes over the 
years but I've not kept a list of daily highs and lows.   This past spring 
was earlier but longer than usual.  The first  day that I checked the pots was 
March 7.  Several pots had  sprouts.  So I don't have a definitive starting 
date. Most years, I haunt  the pots for days before I see the first sprout.  2006 
would have been a  great opportunity.  
 
I started keeping a high/low temperature log this past Dec.   If I can 
remember to continue it through this fall, and if I have fall sprouts,  I might be 
able to answer those questions.  Iris season tends to distract  this type of 
record keeping.  
 
 
I'm not an expert at anything and don't claim to be.  To be honest, I  don't 
care all that much WHY these things happen!  Just that they do.   Knowing WHAT 
happens, or can happen, is important to me. 
 
Paul, I  didn't consider it argumentative at all.
