We certainly live in different climates, Griff. No plastic holds up through our long hot summers. I have tried the window shade markers. They disintegrated after one year. Sharpie marks last about four months. The little stringed cardboard tags I get from Staples are almost indestructible. I use the plain ones though. They last better than colored ones. I hope your seedlings are comfortable under their heavy snow blanket. I and my granddaughters will be transplanting mine into their prepared row on Monday. Some of the ones we transplanted this time last year have stalks in them. Weather here is beautiful right now. In my case, the actual disintegration of some cardboard sales tags in a rainy season and necessity of replacing them convinced me to go to vinyl. My eyes also appreciate the bold contrast of the Sharpie ink against the vinyl vs. the pencil on paper. I also use vinyl strips to label my planting pots, with info printed both above and below dirt level. As I indicated, though, I'll probably try a batch of the ones Anita is recommending, just to save time. At the moment, I'm conjecturing more about how the irises planted in beds along the driveway are going to appreciate this winter, after episodes of being buried under 3-4-ft piles of snow. -- Griff >> --------------------------------------------------------------------- >> To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the >> message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS > > --------------------------------------------------------------------- > To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the > message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS
