Japanese Iris

I am interested in knowing about starting these from seed.  I planted 
some given to me by a friend & they took almost a year to germinate.  I 
kept the container soaking in water the whole time, lots of moss grew.  
Last summer I planted ;them out in the yard, will they bloom this year?

I love the foliage & the flowers are spectacular.
