You are in the American Iris Society (AIS) Region 6. The current RVP
(Regional Vice President) is Emma Hobbs. Phone: (317) 896-2800. She is a
lovely lady, and would be happy to assist you I am sure. I was born and
reared in Ohio....close to Centerville and Miamisburg. Suspect you will need
to develop special beds for Japanese irises or grow them in pots because the
do demand acid soil, and cannot tolerate lime. Consequently Japanese irises
are more popular in Michigan and Illinois than in most areas in Ohio....but
they can be grown in Ohio if acid conditions are provided. By the way, if
you give Emma a ring, she will tell you which local iris society is nearest
to you. There is one in Dayon and one in Columbus I believe. The one in
Dayton is a lovely group of people. I was invited there to give an iris
judges training program, and saw some superb gardens in full iris bloom. If
you are interested in AIS, contact Marilyn Harlow at
103262.1512@compuserve.com. Marilyn is a marvelous lady who will provide you
more information about AIS....which is my favorite plant society...and I
belong to about 30. Best wishes to you....Clarence Mahan
