Jan - since no-one's answered you yet, I'll take a stab at it.... but this is
"quick and dirty" as they say..... Mike or Clarence or Tom will fill in all
the gaps, I'm sure:
MDB, SDB, MTB, BB & IB - all refer to Bearded iris...and describe their SIZE
MDB - is the smallest and stands for Minature Dwarf Bearded - earliest
blooming
SDB - is next - Standard Dwarf Bearded - blooms a little later
MTB - is almost as tall as a Tall Bearded - but the stems are wiry and
graceful and the flowers are small and dainty.... the overall look is very
airy (they're also called Table Iris)
BB & IB - are more or less the same... with the main distinction being bloom
time. They look like a slightly smaller (with flowers in proportion) Tall
Bearded.
SIB: is shorthand for Siberian Iris... a type of beardLESS iris with grassy
foliage and a more wildflower look
JI: Shorthand for Japanese Iris - very much like Siberians only much larger
and later blooming. Japanese have very beautiful flat-ish flowers and
wonderful blue-green foliage.
SPU: Are spuria iris.... and the sum total of my experience with these is
that they won't grow worth a damn here!
OG & OGB.... I think this has something to do with horseracing
I'm obviously out of my 'area of expertise'
Take it away.........
