Re: Louisiana Iris


It is usually recommemded that Louisiana iris be mulched.  This would be 
especially important in sandy soil in a dry climate.  

I minimize the amount of extra water required by watering below the surface.  
I punch holes in the bottom of 2 liter plastic coke bottles and bury them to 
the shoulder between clumps or near an isolated clump.  One filling per 
day is enough to get LAs through our hottest, driest weather.  I'm also 
growing I. laevigata in the garden using this method eventhough standing 
water is recommended.
