I can't see how bags of human hair could possibly scare deer away, when
my hair, and all the rest of me attached to it, merely make them move a
few metres away, munching all the while. I've had to buy vegetables this
winter, as they ate all the broccoli, leeks, lettuce and kale. The only
things left to eat are dandelions and cress. Now I wonder why they left
them, since they eat acrid plants like euphorbia.
One of the American garden magazines showed a garden designed to keep
deer out of the garden - an area 60 feet by 70, with an electrified
vertical fence 7.5 feet tall. It looks beautiful. The fence posts are
tall, there is a low open wooden fence, and then the three electrified
wires above. They have been successful in keeping deer out of this
protected area, and allowing them to roam the rest of the six acres. It
is in the February 96 issue of Horticulture.
