Linda, my chickens would much rather scratch around in any new seedbeds that 
bother weeding the iris.  But that's probably because that's where the new 
applications of compost are, and new compost invariably means WORMS!--or at 
least, that's what Muffy figures, and the other girls pretty much follow her.

Barb, in Santa Fe, where it's not new seedbed time yet (sorry, girls).

Does anyone use chickens to weed their iris beds?  I used to enjoy the work
the barred rocks and rhodies did in the daylily beds, but haven't had
chickens out cultivating the irises.  They do an excellent job on chickweed
(Stellaria ).
