Irises of China is a good book as a reference on Chinese Irises, but of
limited use to the gardener. For the species Jim Waddick was able to bring
back, he has some notes on how they have grown in his garden and a few
others. Many of the species discussed are not available to the general
gardening public or available at all. But prospective buyers should be
aware that more than half the book is a rather dry, botanical treatise on
the Chinese iris flora, illustrated only with line drawings. The first
section, by Jim, does have some color photographs but the quality is
erratic.
