OK, lets throw prudish caution to the wind here. Generally I apply the 
saliva with a finger tip. Last November I found myself standing infront 
of a very large, and very dried out flower of Supreme Sultan, with both 
hands full of hybridising paraphenalia, so a quick flick of the tongue 
did the job nicely, (and discretely - no one around for miles) The 
neighbors are going to start worrying if they see this sort of wierd 
behaviour!
Can't remember it tasting like anything - perhaps a bit like licking a 
lettuce leaf. (This from someone who takes pleasure in munching on raw 
daylily flowers in front of garden visitors)
