Since I am almost a month late in catching up on some email, I hope I'm not
opening something that will cause any more unhappiness and misunderstandings
as in the past. But I just read Kathy's apology and explanation and I think
it was outstanding and generous. And it is a good example of how not to
judge before understanding the background or motivation. I have no idea
what Kathy's solutions were and I don't want to get into opening old wounds
but I would like to transport my squirrels to whomever enjoys their digging
up irises, the same one 5 or 6 times. I am fed up with replanting them and
trying to understand just why they do that to that particular inoffensive
iris!! And I don't enjoy having them chew a way into the birdfood can so
that I have to keep the food in my house so I have to carry it out to the
feeder. Nor do I enjoy having them hanging on the perches so theybreak off
due to the heavy weight they were not built for. The birds do a service in
catching the insects not wanted, and I enjoy watching them and I miss the old
man who used to live behind my garden and who enjoyed squirrel pie so that he
helped keep the population down for awhile. But everyone to his own, I
guess.
The life you described, Kathy, sounds wonderful and adventurous and brought
back memories of my trip to Alaska, such vastness of space - one of the last
opportunities for the pioneer, almost wish I was young enough to be one!
Rosalie nr Baltimore zone 7 where we have summer with 70 degrees and I
can eat lunch outside on my deck with nature (despairing over how those nasty
cute squirrels are burying nuts theyll never find in my garden ) and the next
day it is below freezing with a bitter Arctic wind freezing your toenails!
