Oooh.... I forgot about "iris doodads". I have one bedroom totally given
over to such stuff that my family calls the "iris shrine". :Yes, I will
probably be found under a pile of porcelin irises and suncatchers too.....

BUT, seriously - there is a concern here, and that is that people who collect
such things find good homes for them should something happen. As gruesome or
ridiculous as this may sound, my family has instructions on who to contact
should some terrible thing befall me for desposition of my garden, books and
stuff. Sweet Lenny would not have a clue unless instructed.... nor would he
appreciate the value. Too many people have passed away and had their gardens
plundered, left to weeds or (horrors.... saw it with my own eyes), sprayed
with Round Up and then turned under. I urge folks to have a plan.

As far as artifacts, unless your family would cherish the stuff as you
do..... please have a clear idea of what you want to happen to that stuff.

One wonderful thing that Tony and Dorothy Willott have done (which is a
little off this thread, but pertains to preservation) is to donate their
FULL COLLECTION to our club. This means that we have one garden that has
every single iris that the Willotts have ever introduced from the very
beginning in the 50's. They help us to replace any that are lost, and they
send their introductions each year. We are pleased to have it.... and hope
that other people preserve the life's work of other hybridizers in some
manner.

great coffee this morning!
