Janet,
That is not what a double attribution signifies if it appears in an AIS
Checklst. It means the first person mentioned is the hybridizer of the iris
in question and the second person is the one who registered it, as in the
following example:
PUNKIN PATCH (Don Denney by J. McWhirter, R. 1988) Sdlg D79-46. TB 38" L.,
etc.
Cottage Gardens 1989.
Don Denney made the cross and raised the seedling, but he died in 1986, so
it was his partner who Jim McWhirter who actually registered it in 1988.
The iris was introduced by Cottage Gardens, which was the business in which
both men were involved.
It is not the usual practice to cite the introducer in catalogs and other
references when it is different than the hybridizer and registrant. For
example, Esther Tams hybridized and registered the 1977 Dykes Medal winner,
DREAM LOVER, but in was introduced for her by Tell Muhlestein. I have never
seen DL listed as (Tams/Muhlestein) but only as (Tams).
