I hope this tag is OK - couldn't really find one for this subject....may be there needs to be a new one .
Never too early to start getting Irises lined up for next year's acquisitions. I hope some of you out there
can help me fill in some holes in my project. Probably the only practical way would be stateside only, but I would love to hear from others who may have something...I may get very desperate.
I have a 'States' bed - where all the irises have a state's name as part of their name - like OKLAHOMA CRUDE or MISS INDIANA; or a name that pertains to a state where I have not been able to find a state-named one yet, like LAS VEGAS for Nevada or SCENTED NUTMEG for Connecticut (the nutmeg state).
Needless to say, I do not yet have them all, so I am asking if any of you fine folks out there can help me. Unfortunately, the bed is not conducive to Louisiana or Japanese irises, and I have had little luck here with Siberians and MDBs. The bed currently has SDBs, IBs, BBs, MTBs, TBs, and Spurias. Any year is fine.
Please check the following list of states and e-mail me privately if you are willing to sell or trade me a puzzle piece, or can give me a lead to one (names listed are just known qualifiers and by no means are the only ones I would consider):
CONNECTICUT - currently occupied by SCENTED NUTMEG
DELAWARE
FLORIDA - ordered FLORIDA ORANGE (89 Keppel) from Sutton's last year, but it d/n come
IDAHO - ordered IDAHO BLIZZARD ('96 Pinkston) from, I believe, Stump Hollow, it d/n come
ILLINOIS - maybe someone has CHICAGO's LE ROY ('87 Mahoney)?
IOWA
LOUISIANA - currently occupied by CAJUN SPICES
MAINE - found 2 JI's, but unless I incorporate a pond...and there really is not room.
MARYLAND - does anyone grow MY MARYLAND, or MARYLAND LASS ('68 Van Dexter)?
MASSACHUSETTS
NEBRASKA - Anyone have NEBRASKA SKIES (Marsh) or NEBRASKA NAVY ('72 Ensminger)?
NEVADA - currently occupied by LAS VEGAS - somebody grow NEVADA SMOKE ('88 Plotner)?
NEW HAMPSHIRE -
NEW JERSEY - ?? JERSEY GEM ( '64 Gray), JERSEY MAID ('81 Carr), JERSEY QUEEN ('60 Halbrook)??
NEW MEXICO
NEW YORK - currently GOTHAM CITY ('94 Lauer)... anyone have YORK AND LANCASTER ( '75 Vallette)
OHIO - somebody have OHIO VIOLET ('81 Magee), OHIO BELLE ('77 Willott), MISS OHIO ('83 Willott)
PENNSYLVANIA - ?? PENN ('64 McCaffrey)
RHODE ISLAND
DAKOTA - I have DAKOTA MOON for one of them.. now I need something for the other, either N or S.
UTAH - anyone grow UTAH JAZZ ('88 Anderson), UTAH SNOW or UTAH VELVET ('61 Muhlestein)
VERMONT - VERMONT ('74 Gaulter) is out there someplace
VIRGINIA - I have VIRGINIA RUDKIN, but need something for the other Virginia - MISS VIRGINIA,
V. BELLRINGER ('73 Guild), V. SQUIRE ('71 Gaulter), V. SALUTE ('71 Brown)
WISCONSIN - how about W. BEAUTY('80) or W. CHARMER('69) both Reinhart) or W. HERITAGE ('68)
TIA for any and all help.
Dell
- who is up to here ears with making the wooden stands (500 of them) for the display vases for the Iris Show that will accompany the 2000 Convention ( I must say this job is easier than the almost 300 wooden Irises I painted for the Ft. Worth Convention a few years back)
- in Plano - where it was 38 degrees this morning -and Saturday's high forecast at 82! HI is still blooming.
