SPEC: I. schachtii
From: "Jan Clark" <janclarx@hotmail.com>
Hi all,
I had a pod full of I. schachtii seeds ripen in November, and get wet in the
rain, so instead of putting them in the fridge for several weeks, I popped
them straight into a pot, tucked them away between some large tubs of
bamboo, so they wouldn't become a kitty toilet, and promptly forgot them. I
have watered them about 3 times when I've remembered, and mother nature has
done a bit of watering, but they have dried out throughly in between.
Thought I'd check them today, and, to my amazement, 1 very healthy looking
1/2" seedling. I wonder if this is the firstborn bearded iris for the
millenium? (or - if you like - for a year starting with the number 2). I'll
never know.
Hoping for some more in Autumn - I'd like to see if there is any difference
between the seedlings and the parent.
Cheers, Jan
