Dear Friends: I have a seedling (had, rather, but it is still in friends'
hands), that has not ceased to vary greatly every year, mostly in form, but
also in color. The friends think it is tremendous, because it is a surprise
every year!! The most typical variation for me is in the stalk. The first
blooming is apt to be on a shortened stalk. I had a lovely blue border
iris one year, - the next it shot up to 38" and was ugly and useless. Two
years ago the Region 4 folk came here and selected a new light blue-violet
with violet beards, - a border iris. This year it grew up to 36" and was no
longer "just right". I had a super-super white with blue beards this year,
also border size and height. I greatly fear that it will follow the road
taken by those two above, but I do , do , do hope that it will stay as it
was this year. Our second snow-storm of the week last night, and more
predicted for Sunday. (This is Thursday, and we are to have an eclipse of
the moon a couple of hours from now. No clouds so it should be worth
watching, but it is ver, very cold out. Lloyd Zurbrigg in Durham SC Zone 8.
