? I chrysographes germination

From: dlouis@dynamicro.on.ca

Dear Iris Folks, I have been puzzling since last year about germinating
I chrysographes. I got the seeds germinated inside and about 3" tall.
Then sometime in June I started to acclimatize them to the sunlight
outside so they could go out (be planted) I put them in sunlight for
gradually increasing lengths of time multiple times ie a couple of times
during the day and put them in shade for the rest of the day. Finally I
put them outside in damp soil since my understanding is that I
chrysographes likes damp soil. They promptly 1)died OR 2)died back I am
not sure which. Can anyone tell me what happened? If they died how can I
stop them from doing this again? I am getting some more seeds from SIGNA
(I hope). When they were planted they got about 2 hours of sun per day.
Should they have more? How can I improve things so the seedlings will
live? Thanks in advance for any help.

For reference I had in the same row a pot of I typhifolia which also
died back but much more slowly. Would I chrysographes also die back?
