Everyone who grows bearded irises around here has problems with botrytis
rot, but before Global Warming became all the rage it didn't show up until
March or April.

I do not grow HONORABILE, but I have had another one of its sports,
JOSEPH'S COAT KATKAMIER, for a dozen years with no problems. Maybe the
difference is that I grow JP a la Mann in a mixed planting where it is
camouflaged by all sorts of semi-weedy perennials and KBM is growing under
clean cultivation out in the open where the botrytis spores can spot it
from a mile away.

Probably both of these were growing too well for me - they took off after I
planted them in the summer of '98 and were outgrowing just about all the
other four dozen Historics in the same bed, and destiny just caught up with
them. 

NEGLECTA and KBM do not have large succulent rhizomes - they are after all
medians growing in a planting that is mainly TB's. GREAT LAKES is planted
next to NEGLECTA with rhizomes the size of sweet potatoes that as firm as
rocks. It will be interesting to see if it "catches the flu", too.
