A weather report from southern, ontario, Canada. For the month of December in
Guelph, we had an all time record snowfall. 97.6 cm, or about 3 feet. Some has
melted and some has packed, so there is about 18-20" on the ground with a lot
of 3 foot drifts. The temperature has also been a record cold. The snow cover
bodes well for winter survival of late planted iris and the tender varieties.
Once we go snowed in and would have been snowed in yesterday except that I now
have an old beat up tractor (all we could afford) and was able to use it to
clear the drive enought to get out. We have a 200 ft driveway that drifts in.
Yesterday there was several two foot plus drifts. More snow forcast, everyday
day for next five days. The sun is out right now, but not counting on it
staying. Usually I can still get into the garden and finish my inventory at
this time of year. There usually is some snow, but not enough to hide the
plants, and if so it would usually melt in a few days. Thius year I'm going to
have to guess at availability of plants as I prepare my catalog.
