Welcome to the list!
You mentioned you had some rot because you have your irises mixed in with your garden planting. You may want to grow rebloomers with your other plants as they need more water and fertilizer than regular once blooming iris. You could move the other irises into separate beds of their own. Watch out you may become addicted like the rest of us!
Also , you mentioned that you grow Japanese rooftop iris. Did you know how they got that nickname?( I have a book with the discription and garden name , can't find it at the moment)Apparently there was a famine in Japan and the people were not allowed to grow any flowers in their gardens ,only vegetables for food. WELL...... The women needed to grow this particular iris because they used it to make their very important face powder.So they snuck the irises up on the roofs and grew them there.
