Afternoon...
Wendy wanted to know what an English box is/was?
It's a classification of off stalk/scape iris flowers ONLY. 3 to 5, 4 to 6,
or 5 to 7 to a box. The box is usually a styrofoam square or rectangle
usually provided by the show/show chairman.
The flowers should be uniform in something. They should have a theme and the
entry needs a name. Something like:
BACK IN BLACK - A Collection of all black flowers duly named.
PICK a Pack of Plics - A collection of all plicatas (my favorite ones to
group together.)
Rainbow Riders - A collection of all different...
Singin' The Blues - Something like Honky Tonk Blues, Memphis Blues, and other
all blue irises.
Hope that helps... That's how I handle mine. Each flower is snapped off
right below where the sheath comes up. Remove the sheath. Stick the green
stub in water so the flower is right above the top of the vile resting on the
bottom of the standards or standing up just above them. The viles all go
into the styrofoam. Each flower should be boldly labeled right in front of
the vile with the entry title and tag stuck somewhere else on the foam.
