Mark, Dietes is usually considered hardy only in Z9, so I suspect that
yours are toast at that temperature. However, I would watch them for at
least a month to see if any new sprouts come from the roots. If the soil
did not freeze, they may have survived. I grow my Dietes in pots in the
greenhouse. They are definitely not hardy here. 10-12F has also been our
minimum here but the real damage was done (I fear) by prolonged cold--for
the first time in four years, the ground has frozen, and digging showed the
frost penetrating to about 6" in a vegetable bed that had been tilled in
October. Probably deeper penetration where the ground was more compact.
We'll see this spring what happens to all the borderline stuff I've been
enjoying the past few years of mild winters!
Buds starting on Neomaricas!
