AIS-Bus

Gordon and I have not been priveledged to attend many conventions or
iris treks. The Portland Trek a few years back stands out for us. We
were on a brand new bus very loooong and very comfortable. The first
garden (a working farm) had a long narrow lane edged on one side by
fruit trees to access the garden, it was raining and the drive was firm
but I need to tell you again it was very narrow. Well our driver backed
in and trying to miss fruit trees veered off the path, big no-no!! After
much tying to get the bus out on its own they brought up a small garden
tractor driven by the grandpa of the place (it was a bit larger then a
roto tiller) grandpa did his thing to no avail, we all found ourselves
leaning forward trying to help it!! The word went out, "they are going
to go get the BIG tractor, all right!! Since allot of us were from
California and used to Texas size tractors we were amazed when they
pulled up with a tractor just a little larger and younger then the first
one!! Bill Maryott kept suggesting that maybe some of us should just
get behind the bus and shove!! And all this time there were allot of
people sitting in the bus!! The windows were tinted and the driver
(being young and nice) had not asked them to get off, we counted at
least a dozen people getting out before the last ditch effort of hooking
the bus to the front bus and towing it out that way, which worked. The
best part of the whole incident was that the frail grandmother was very
verbal about "having backed a school bus down that driveway for 15 years
and never having one bit of trouble". We were all sure that if she had
taken the wheel we would not have been stranded at all. Lorraine
Nicholson in Modesto California waiting for the much needed rain to
arrive, the storm has reached San Fransico and will be here in an hour
or so!!
