A variagata must have intense carotinoid pigment (either yellow or pink) in
both the standards and the falls. It must also have strong anthocyanine
pigment in the falls. Edith Wolford does not qualify because of a lack of
carotinoid pigment in the falls.
A variagata can also have the plicata characteristic a would be described as
a variagata plicata.
